Yes it's true, we hauled out at the boat yard again back in December, to do more DIY boat repair! We find our failed engine mounts were barely attached to the boat, initiating operation: Engine mount FAILURE and Drive-Train MAKEOVER! We added many bonus items to the haul out list, as "while we are in there" jobs which turned into replacing the PSS dripless, replacing old engine mounts, refurbishing our MaxProp with PYI, checking our prop shaft, replacing a cutlass bearing, and cutting a couple big holes in our bow.. 🛠 This episode is downright dirty with plenty of fiberglass grinding, headstands in the dirty engine bilge and tons of boat yoga. After our trouble with setting our CQR anchor down at the Channel Islands, we knew it was time for Gemini to get an anchor upgrade. We absolutely loved sailing channel islands, and although we stopped inVentura for a couple of days, we were ready to continue exploring the Channel islands. We say goodbye to our crew, Nicki, and have a bouncy ride crossing the Santa Barbara Channel before arriving at Little Scorpion anchorage. We wake up to a super calm island anchorage, paddle around to explore the caves and checkout the underwater scene. Then, we head to Fry’s harbor, which is known as one of the most popular spots at the channel islands national park.Once again, we enjoy these remote islands and the deep water anchoring, which bring some extra challenges. We have one our our first boat fails when our anchor has trouble setting properly, explore the remnants of the quarry operation onshore and then wake up to an anchorage full of other boats. Last year we attempted sailing to the channel islands. We dreamt of making it to the Channel Islands National Park, but only made it down the California Coast to Santa Barbara.
